| Biography | |
A native of Brooklyn, New York, John Caggiano received the BA degree from Brooklyn College and the MFA from Pratt Institute, both with honors. His study of art has been supplemented at the Brooklyn Museum and the Forum of Stage Design in New York.
The artist, captivated by the beauty and the unique quality of Cape Anns light, relocated to Rockport, Massachusetts, in 1980. Traveling extensively, Mr. Caggianos other subjects include California, Italy, and the Caribbean, among others.
As a plein aire painter Mr. Caggiano is able to capture the essence of the time and place that leads to his bright and colorful impressionistic-realism style of art. The work is further enhanced by his daring use of palette knife, keeping brush work to a minimum. Painting for me is the bold and dynamic use of color that infuses life into the subject of painting.
Mr. Caggiano has served as president of the Rockport Art Association and has been a member of its board of governors for more than ten years. He is also a member of the North Shore Arts Association, Boothbay Harbor Arts Foundation, Academic Artists Association, and International Society of Marine Painters.
As the winner of numerous awards in juried shows, Mr. Caggianos work may be found in many private and corporate collections. His art has been featured in many publications, including magazines, newspapers, and books. Some of his work has graced the cover of some of these publications. Both he and his art were featured on the nationwide television program Good Morning, America. |
